The Importance of Reliable Narration

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of only narrating what one has heard from a reliable source.

'Abida said: I will not narrate to you except what I heard from him (Hadrat 'Ali), and then he narrated from him.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ عَبِيدَةَ، قَالَ لاَ أُحَدِّثُكُمْ إِلاَّ مَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْهُ، ‏.‏ فَذَكَرَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ أَيُّوبَ مَرْفُوعًا
