Sahih Muslim 1032a (Book 12, Hadith 119) #9518
The Best Kind of Charity

SUMMARY: Charity is best when given in a state of health and mind, with the fear of poverty and hope for wealth. It should not be deferred until death.

Abu Huraira reported that there came a person to the Messenger of Allah and said: Messenger of Allah, which charity is the best? Upon this he said: That you should give charity (in a state when you are) healthy and close-fisted, one haunted by the fear of poverty, hoping to become rich (charity in such a state of health and mind is the best). And you must not defer (charity to such a length) that you are about to die and would he saying: This is for so and so, and this is for so and so. Lo, it has already come into (the possession of so and so).

QUICK LESSONS:
Give charity while you are healthy and close-fisted with some fear for poverty but hope for wealth; Do not defer your charitable acts till you die; Be generous; Help those who need it most without putting yourself at risk financially or otherwise; Reap rewards both in this life and the hereafter by doing good deeds while alive; Be mindful about your own financial situation before helping others financially etc..

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about charity, which is an important part of Islamic teachings. It encourages people to give charity while they are healthy and have some fear of poverty, hoping to become rich. The hadith also discourages deferring charity until one's death as it may not reach its intended recipient then. Giving charity in such a state will bring more reward than giving it when one is close to death or already dead. This teaches us that we should always strive to do good deeds while we are alive so that we can reap the rewards in this life and the hereafter. We should also be mindful of our own financial situation so that we can help those who need it most without putting ourselves at risk financially or otherwise.
