Praying for Inhabitants of Graveyards

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teaching people to say a prayer for the inhabitants of the graveyard.

Sulaiman b. Buraida narrated on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah used to teach them when they went out to the graveyard. One of the narrators used to say this in the narration transmitted on the authority of Abu Bakr: " Peace be upon the inhabitants of the city (i. e. graveyard)". In the hadith transmitted by Zuhair (the words are):" Peace be upon you, the inhabitants of the city, among the believers, and Muslims, and God willing we shall join you. I beg of Allah peace for us and for you".

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray for peace upon those in graveyards

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how Prophet Muhammad taught people to pray for those who have passed away and are buried in graveyards. He taught them to say "Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of this city among believers and Muslims". By doing this we are asking Allah to grant peace and mercy upon them in their graves as well as us here on earth. This teaches us that even though someone has passed away they should still be remembered with love and respect through prayer and remembrance from those who remain alive. It also teaches us that we should always remember our deceased loved ones with kindness and compassion no matter what religion or beliefs they may have held while alive.
