Sahih Muslim 956 (Book 11, Hadith 93) #9363
Illuminating Graves with Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) was saddened to hear of the death of a dark-complexioned woman or youth who used to sweep the mosque, and he prayed for them and said that Allah will illuminate their graves with his prayer.

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that a dark-complexioned woman (or a youth) used to sweep the mosque. The Messenger of Allah missed her (or him) and inquired about her (or him). The people told him that she (or he) had died. He asked why they did not inform him, and it appears as if they had treated her (or him) or her (or his) affairs as of little account. He (the Holy Prophet) said: Lead me to her (or his) grave. They led him to that place and he said prayer over her (or him) and then remarked: Verily, these graves are full of darkness for their dwellers. Verily, the Mighty and Glorious Allah illuminates them for their occupants by reason of my prayer over them.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of prayer and how it can bring light even after death. It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that a dark-complexioned woman or youth used to sweep the mosque. When they passed away, The Messenger of Allah inquired about her/him and was saddened by their passing. He asked why they did not inform him, as if they had treated her/his affairs as insignificant. He then asked to be led to their grave so he could pray for them, saying that these graves are full of darkness but Allah illuminates them for their occupants through his prayers over them. This hadith teaches us that we should never take anyone's life lightly, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem in our eyes; we should always remember that everyone has value in God's eyes and deserves respect even after death. We should also remember that prayer can bring light into any situation, no matter how dark it may seem at first glance.
