The Reward of Funeral Procession

SUMMARY: Following a funeral procession is rewarded with one qirat.

Nafi' narrated that it was said to Ibn 'Umar that Abu Huraira reported to have heard Allah's Messenger as saying: He who follows the bier, for him is the reward of one qirat. Ibn 'Umar said: Abu Huraira narrated it too often. So he sent (a messenger to) 'A'isha to ascertain (the fact). She ('A'isha) testified Abu Huraira. Ibn 'Umar said: We missed so many Qirats.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the reward for following a funeral procession. It was narrated by Nafi' from Ibn 'Umar and Abu Huraira that Allah's Messenger said that whoever follows the bier will be rewarded with one qirat. A qirat is an amount of reward given to someone for their good deeds in Islam. Ibn 'Umar then sent a messenger to A'isha to confirm this hadith, which she did, and he expressed regret at missing out on so many rewards due to not following enough funerals. This hadith teaches us the importance of attending funerals as it is an act of kindness towards those who have passed away as well as being rewarded by Allah for our good deeds in this world and the hereafter.
