Sahih al-Bukhari 949, 950 (Book 13, Hadith 2) #919
Music & Entertainment in the Presence of the Prophet (pbuh)

SUMMARY: The Prophet (pbuh) allowed two girls to sing and play music in his presence, and he also allowed Aisha to watch a display of Black people playing with shields and spears.

Narrated Aisha: Allah's Messenger (pbuh) came to my house while two girls were singing beside me the songs of Buath (a story about the war between the two tribes of the Ansar, the Khazraj and the Aus, before Islam). The Prophet (pbuh) lay down and turned his face to the other side. Then Abu Bakr came and spoke to me harshly saying, "Musical instruments of Satan near the Prophet (pbuh) ?" Allah's Messenger (pbuh) turned his face towards him and said, "Leave them". When Abu Bakr became inattentive, I signaled to those girls to go out and they left. It was the day of 'Id, and the Black people were playing with shields and spears; so either I requested the Prophet (pbuh) or he asked me whether I would like to see the display. I replied in the affirmative. Then the Prophet (pbuh) made me stand behind him and my cheek was touching his cheek and he was saying, "Carry on! O Bani Arfida," till I got tired. The Prophet (pbuh) asked me, "Are you satisfied (Is that sufficient for you)?" I replied in the affirmative and he told me to leave.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness towards others regardless of their background or religion . Respect other cultures & traditions even if we do not agree with them or understand them fully ourselves . Allow others freedom within limits set by Allah SWT .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ showed kindness and mercy towards others. He was asked by Abu Bakr why he was allowing two girls to sing near him while they were singing songs about a war between two tribes before Islam. The Prophet replied that they should be left alone. On another occasion when it was Eid day, Aisha asked if she could watch some Black people playing with shields and spears as part of their celebration. The prophet agreed and even made her stand close to him so she could get a better view until she got tired. He then asked her if she was satisfied with what she saw before letting her go home. This hadith teaches us that we should be kind towards others no matter who they are or what their beliefs may be as this is what the prophet did himself during his lifetime on earth. We can also learn from this hadith that it is important for us to show respect for other cultures and traditions even if we do not agree with them or understand them fully ourselves - just like how the prophet allowed Aisha to watch something which may have been unfamiliar or strange at first glance but still respected it enough not to stop her from doing so out of kindness towards her wishes.
