Essential Practices on Fridays

SUMMARY: It is essential to bathe, use a miswak and apply some perfume on Fridays for adults.

'Abd al-Rahman son of Abd Sa'id al-Khudri reported on the authority of his father that the Messenger of Allah said: Bathing on Friday for every adult, using of Miswak and applying some perfume, that is available-these are essential. So far as the perfume is concerned, it may be that used by a lady.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith encourages Muslims to practice certain essential activities on Fridays. These activities include bathing, using a miswak and applying some perfume. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has instructed us to do these things as they are important for our spiritual well-being. The miswak is a small twig that is used as a toothbrush and it helps keep the mouth clean and healthy. Applying perfume can be done with any type of fragrance that is available, even if it belongs to a woman. All these practices help us stay clean and smell nice which in turn helps us feel good about ourselves spiritually as well as physically.
