Sahih Muslim 839c (Book 6, Hadith 372) #9097
Praying in Times of Danger

SUMMARY: This hadith explains how to pray in times of danger, and that prayer can be done even with gestures while standing.

Ibn Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah observed prayer in danger on some day (in this way): a group stood with him (the Holy Prophet) (for prayer) and the other group stood In front of the enemy. Then those who were with (him) observed one rak'ah of prayer and they went back and the others came and they observed one rak'ah (with him). Then both the groups completed one rak'ah each. Ibn Umar said: When there is greater danger, then observe prayer even on the ride or with the help of gestures in a standing posture.

QUICK LESSONS:
Remember to pray no matter what situation you are in
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the importance of prayer even in times of danger. It is narrated by Ibn Umar that the Prophet Muhammad observed prayer on some day when there was danger present. He divided his followers into two groups; one group stood with him for prayer and the other group stood facing the enemy. The first group then prayed one rak'ah and went back, while the second group came forward and prayed one rak’ah with him. In this way both groups completed one rak’ah each. Ibn Umar further said that if there is greater danger then it is permissible to observe prayer even on a ride or by making gestures while standing up. This hadith teaches us that we should never forget our prayers no matter what situation we are in, as it is an important part of our faith as Muslims. We should also remember to stay vigilant during times of danger so we can protect ourselves from harm's way.
