Sahih Muslim 733a (Book 6, Hadith 142) #8867
Reciting the Quran with Intention

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) began to recite the Quran in a slow and measured tone towards the end of his life.

Hafsa reported: Never did I see the Messenger of Allah observing supererogatory prayer sitting till one year before his death when he would observe Nafl prayer in a sitting position, and he would recite the Surah (of the Qur'an) in such a slow-measured tone (that duration of its recital) became more lengthy than the one longer than this.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Hafsa bint Umar speaks about how Prophet Muhammad PBUH recited the Quran in his last year of life. He would recite it slowly and with intention, making sure that each word was pronounced correctly. This is an important lesson for us to learn as Muslims, as we should also strive to read our holy book with intention and focus on understanding its meaning. We should not rush through it but take our time to reflect on its words and ponder over them. Furthermore, this hadith teaches us that even if we are busy or have a lot of tasks at hand, we should still make time for Allah SWT’s words and try our best to understand them properly.
