Sahih Muslim 686a (Book 6, Hadith 4) #8729
Accepting Allah's Charity

SUMMARY: Allah has given us the opportunity to shorten our prayers when we are in fear of being attacked by non-believers. We should accept this charity from Allah.

Yahya b. Umayya said: I told 'Umar b. al-Khattab that Allah had said:" You may shorten the prayer only if you fear that those who are unbelievers may afflict you" (Qur'an, iv. 101), whereas the people are now safe. He replied: I wondered about it in the same way as you wonder about it, so I asked the Messenger of Allah about it and he said: It is an act of charity which Allah has done to you, so accept His charity.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be grateful for all blessings from God , Seek guidance from those with more knowledge , Make informed decisions based on wisdom rather than emotion alone .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about accepting the charity that Allah has given us in times of fear and danger. In the Qur'an it is mentioned that if we are afraid of being attacked by non-believers then we can shorten our prayers as an act of charity from Allah. 'Umar b. al-Khattab was wondering about this so he asked the Messenger of Allah who confirmed that it was indeed an act of charity from God and should be accepted as such. This hadith teaches us to be grateful for all the blessings that God gives us even if they come in difficult times or situations where we may feel scared or threatened by others who do not share our beliefs or values. It also reminds us to always seek guidance from those who have more knowledge than ourselves when faced with difficult questions or decisions so that we can make informed choices based on wisdom rather than emotion alone.
