Sahih Muslim 593e (Book 5, Hadith 179) #8493
The Power of Allah

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the power of Allah and how no one can withhold what He gives or give what He withholds.

Warrad, the scribe of Mughira b. Shu'ba, reported: Mu'awiya wrote to Mughira: Write to me anything which you heard from the Messenger of Allah . So he (Mughira) wrote to him (Mu'awiya): I heard the Messenger of Allah uttering (these words) at the completion of prayer:" There is no god but Allah. He is alone and there is no partner with Him. Sovereignty belongs to Him and to Him is praise due and He is Potent over everything. O Allah! no one can withhold what Thou givest, or give what Thou withholdest, and riches cannot avail a wealthy person with Thee".

QUICK LESSONS:
Remember to thank God for all your blessings by praising Him every day!

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the power and greatness of Allah. It tells us that no one can withhold what He gives or give what He withholds, and that riches cannot avail a wealthy person with Him. In other words, it is only through His grace that we receive anything in this life, and our wealth does not make us any more special in His eyes than anyone else. We should always remember this when we are feeling proud or boastful about our possessions or accomplishments; they are all gifts from Him which could be taken away at any time if it were His will. We should also remember to thank Him for these blessings by praising Him for them every day!
