Sahih Muslim 593c (Book 5, Hadith 177) #8491
Greeting with Respect

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that when one greets another, they should be greeted with a salutation of peace and respect.

Warrad, the freed slave of Mughira b. Shu'ba, reported: Mughira b. Shu'ba wrote to Mu'awiya (it was Warrad who wrote this letter for him, i. e. Mughira): I heard the Messenger of Allah saying:" When the salutation is pronounced". and the rest of the hadith is the same except this that he made no mention of:" He is Potent over everything".

QUICK LESSONS:
Greet others with salutations of peace & respect

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us to greet each other with respect and kindness. He said that when we meet someone or are about to part from them, we should say “As-salamu alaykum” which means “Peace be upon you”. This is a way of showing respect for the other person and wishing them well in their life. It is also important to remember that Allah is powerful over everything so we should always show humility and gratitude towards Him as well as others around us.

By greeting each other in this way it shows our love for one another and our commitment to living peacefully together in harmony. We can also use this phrase as an expression of hope for the future; by saying “As-salamu alaykum” we are wishing each other peace now and into the future too!
