EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith from Anas b. Malik teaches us that spitting in a mosque is considered to be a sin and requires expiation or kaffara. A mosque is an important place of worship for Muslims and should be respected as such; therefore, it should not be desecrated by any means including spitting. To make up for this sin, the person who committed it must bury the spit so that the sanctity of the mosque can remain intact.
