Sahih Muslim 510a (Book 4, Hadith 299) #8304
Praying with a Barrier

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of having a barrier between oneself and distractions while praying.

Abu Dharr reported: The Messenger of 'Allah said: When any one of you stands for prayer and there is a thing before him equal to the back of the saddle that covers him and in case there is not before him (a thing) equal to the back of the saddle, his prayer would be cut off by (passing of an) ass, woman, and black Dog. I said: O Abu Dharr, what feature is there in a black dog which distinguish it from the red dog and the yellow dog? He said: O, son of my brother, I asked the Messenger of Allah as you are asking me, and he said: The black dog is a devil.

QUICK LESSONS:
Create an environment where you can focus on your prayers without any interruptions or disturbances from outside sources .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of having a barrier between oneself and any potential distractions while praying. It is narrated by Abu Dharr that Prophet Muhammad said that if one stands for prayer and there is something in front of them equal to the back of a saddle, then their prayer will not be interrupted by an ass, woman or black dog. When asked what distinguishes a black dog from other dogs, Prophet Muhammad replied that it was because it was a devil. This hadith teaches us to be mindful when we are praying and to ensure that we have no distractions around us so our prayers can be accepted by Allah. We should also strive to create an environment where we can focus on our prayers without any interruptions or disturbances from outside sources such as animals or people passing by. Additionally, this hadith reminds us of the presence of evil forces in this world which may try to distract us from worshipping Allah and performing our religious duties properly.
