Sahih Muslim 431b (Book 4, Hadith 133) #8138
Gestures During Salutations in Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught his followers to not make gestures with their hands while saying salutations in prayer.

Jabir b. Samura reported: We said our prayer with the Messenger of Allah and, while pronouncing salutations, we made gestures with our hands (indicating)" Peace be upon you, peace be upon you". The Messenger of Allah looked towards us and said: Why is it that you make gestures with your hands like the tails of headstrong horses? When any one of you pronounces salutation (in prayer) he should only turn his face towards his companion and should not make a gesture with his hand.

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad's teachings are a source of guidance for Muslims all over the world. In this hadith, he is teaching his followers about how to properly say salutations during prayer. He explains that instead of making gestures with their hands like the tails of headstrong horses, they should simply turn their faces towards each other when saying salutations. This teaches us that we should be mindful and respectful when engaging in religious activities such as prayer and that we should not be overly expressive or showy when doing so. It also reminds us to stay humble and remember our place before God at all times.
