Sahih Muslim 418b (Book 4, Hadith 99) #8104
The Prophet's Illness and Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was ill and asked permission from his wives to stay in 'A'isha's house. He went out for prayer with al-Fadl b. 'Abbas and another person, who was later revealed to be 'Ali, on either side of him.

'A'isha reported: It was in the house of Maimuna that the Messenger of Allah first fell ill. He asked permission from his wives to stay in her ('A'isha's) house during his illness. They granted him permission. She ('A'isha) narrated: He (the Holy Prophet) went out (for prayer) with his hand over al-Fadl b. 'Abbas and on the other hand there was another person and (due to weakness) his feet dragged on the earth'.Ubaidullah said: I narrated this hadith to the son of 'Abbas ('Abdullah b. 'Abbas) and he said: Do you know who the man was whose name 'A'isha did not mention? It was 'Ali.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's illness and prayer during that time. It is narrated by A'isha that the Prophet fell ill in the house of Maimuna, so he asked permission from his wives to stay in her house during his illness which they granted him permission for. He then went out for prayer with al-Fadl b.'Abbas on one side and another person on the other side whose name she did not mention but was later revealed to be Ali. This hadith teaches us about companionship, seeking permission, being considerate towards others even when we are unwell or weak ourselves, as well as showing respect towards our elders like al-Fadl b.'Abbas who were companions of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH at that time.
