Sahih Muslim 398b (Book 4, Hadith 50) #8055
Reciting During Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was surprised when someone recited a verse during his prayer and asked who it was.

'Imran b. Husain reported: The Messenger of Allah observed the Zuhr prayer and a person recited Sabbih Isma Rabbik al-a'la (Glorify the name of thy Lord, the Most High) behind him. When he (the Holy Pro- phet) concluded the prayer he said: Who amongst you recited (the above-mentioned verse) or who amongst you was the reciter? A person said: It was I. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) observed: I thought as if someone amongst you was disputing with me (in what I was reciting).

QUICK LESSONS:
Recite verses from Quran while praying

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of reciting during prayer. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was leading the Zuhr prayer when he heard someone recite a verse from the Quran, Sabbih Isma Rabbik al-a'la, which translates to “Glorify the name of thy Lord, the Most High”. After finishing his prayer, he asked who had been reciting and found out that it was one of those present in congregation with him. He then said that he thought as if someone amongst them was disputing with him in what he had been reciting. This shows us how important it is to recite during our prayers and how we should not be distracted by anything else while praying or even think about something else instead of focusing on our prayers. It also teaches us to be mindful of our actions and words while in congregation with others so as not to disturb them or distract them from their worshiping Allah SWT.
