Sahih Muslim 389c (Book 4, Hadith 21) #8026
The Power of Adhan

SUMMARY: Whenever one hears a call from evil spirits, they should recite the Adhan as it will cause Satan to run away.

Suhail reported that his father sent him to Banu Haritha along with a boy or a man. Someone called him by his name from an enclosure. He (the narrator) said: The person with me looked towards the enclosure, but saw nothing. I made a mention of that to my father. He said: If I knew that you would meet such a situation I would have never sent you (there), but (bear in wind) whenever you hear such a call (from the evil spirits) pronounce the Adhan. for I have heard Abu Huraira say that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Whenever Adhan is proclaimed, Satan runs back vehemently.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the power of reciting the Adhan, which is a call to prayer in Islam. It was narrated by Suhail who reported that his father sent him with someone else to Banu Haritha when they heard a call from an enclosure but saw nothing. His father then told him that if he knew this would happen he wouldn't have sent him there, but instead advised him to recite the Adhan whenever he hears such a call as it will cause Satan to run away. This hadith teaches us that we should always be prepared for any situation and have faith in Allah's words as He has promised us protection against evil forces if we recite the adhan whenever we hear them calling out. We can also take comfort in knowing that no matter what happens, Allah is always with us and will protect us if we turn towards Him for help.
