Sahih Muslim 389a (Book 4, Hadith 19) #8024
The Power of Prayer

SUMMARY: Satan runs away from the call to prayer and Iqama, but distracts people's minds when they are praying.

Abu Huraira reported the Messenger of Allah as saying: When Satan hears the call to prayer, he turns back and breaks the wind so as not to hear the call being made, but when the call is finished he turns round and distracts (the minds of those who pray), and when he hears the Iqama, he again runs away so as not to hear its voice and when it subsides, he comes back and distracts (the minds of those who stand for prayer).

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray regularly with focus on worshipping Allah alone without any distractions or interruptions .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the power of prayer and how it affects even Satan himself. It is narrated by Abu Huraira that Prophet Muhammad said that when the call to prayer is made, Satan turns back and breaks wind so as not to hear it. However, once the call is finished he turns around and tries to distract those who are praying. Similarly, when Iqama is made he runs away again so as not to hear its voice but comes back once it subsides in order to try and distract those who are standing for prayer. This hadith teaches us that prayer has a great power over evil forces such as Satan himself which should motivate us further in our worship of Allah Almighty. We should also be aware of his attempts at distracting us during our prayers so we can remain focused on worshipping Allah alone without any distractions or interruptions.
