Sahih Muslim 367b (Book 3, Hadith 138) #7986
Revelation of Tayammum

SUMMARY: This hadith explains how the verses pertaining to tayammum were revealed when a necklace was lost and water was not available for ablution.

'A'isha reported she had borrowed from Asma' (her sister) a necklace and it was lost. The Messenger of Allah sent men to search for it. As it was the time for prayer, they offered prayer without ablution (as water was not available there). When they came to the Messenger of Allah , they made a complaint about it, and the verses pertaining to tayammum were revealed. Upon this Usaid b. Hadair said (to 'A'isha): May Allah grant you a good reward! Never has been there an occasion when you were beset with difficulty and Allah did not make you come out of that and made it an occasion of blessing for the Muslims.

QUICK LESSONS:
Trusting in Allah during difficult times

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about an incident that happened between 'A'isha and her sister Asma'. A necklace belonging to Asma' was borrowed by 'A'isha, but it got lost. The Messenger of Allah sent people to search for it, but as it was time for prayer they could not perform ablution due to lack of water. At this point, the verses pertaining to tayammum were revealed which allowed them to perform prayer without ablution in such circumstances. Usaid b. Hadair praised 'A'sha for her difficulty being turned into a blessing for Muslims by Allah's grace. This hadith teaches us that even in difficult situations, if we trust in Allah He will make things easier for us and turn our difficulties into blessings.
