Sahih Muslim 340a (Book 3, Hadith 93) #7941
Building the Ka'ba with Care

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad and his uncle Abbas were helping to build the Ka'ba when Abbas suggested that the Prophet put a garment on his shoulder to protect himself from the stones. The Prophet fell unconscious and when he awoke, he asked for his garment.

Jabir b. 'Abdullah reported: When the Ka'ba was constructed the Messenger of Allah and Abbas went and lifted stones. Abbas said to the Messenger of Allah : Place your lower garment on your shoulder (so that you may protect yourself from the roughness and hardness of stones). He (the Holy Prophet) did this, but fell down upon the ground in a state of unconsciousness and his eyes were turned towards the sky. He then stood up and said: My lower garment, my lower garment; and this wrapper was tied around him. In the hadith transmitted by Ibn Rafi', there is the word:" On his neck" and he did not say:" Upon his shoulder".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be careful while working hard , Take precautions even if you are doing something good .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about an incident that happened when the Prophet Muhammad and his uncle Abbas were helping to build the Ka'ba in Mecca. When they were lifting stones, Abbas suggested that Muhammad should put a garment on his shoulder so that it would protect him from any roughness or hardness of the stones. However, after doing this, Muhammad fell unconscious and was lying on the ground with his eyes towards heaven. When he woke up, he asked for his lower garment which was then tied around him as a wrapper. This hadith teaches us several values such as being careful while working hard and taking precautions even if we are doing something good like building a holy place like Ka’aba or any other place of worship for that matter. It also teaches us to be humble even if we are doing something great because no matter how much effort we put in our work, it is ultimately Allah who decides our fate and success in life.
