Trimming Moustache and Growing Beard in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) instructed Muslims to act against polytheists, trim their moustache and grow their beard.

Ibn Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Act against the polytheists, trim closely the moustache and grow beard.
حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا نَافِعٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ خَالِفُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَحْفُوا الشَّوَارِبَ وَأَوْفُوا اللِّحَى

Furthermore, it serves as an outward symbol of one’s faithfulness to Allah and His Messenger. In addition, this hadith also teaches us that we should take care of our appearance so that we can present ourselves with dignity before others.
