Sahih Muslim 237a (Book 2, Hadith 27) #7731
Cleanliness in Islamic Practices

SUMMARY: It is important to use an odd number of pebbles when cleaning oneself after answering the call of nature and to snuff water into one's nose and clean it when performing ablution.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle as saying: When anyone wipes himself with pebbles (after answering the call of nature) he must make use of an odd number and when any one of you performs ablution he must snuff in his nose water and then clean it.

QUICK LESSONS:
Use an odd number of pebbles for cleaning oneself after answering the call of nature; Snuff water into one's nose and then clean it while performing ablution; Pay attention to detail for ensuring purity during prayer .

EXPLANATIONS:
In Islam, cleanliness is highly valued and encouraged. This hadith from Abu Huraira explains two ways in which Muslims can practice cleanliness. The first way is by using an odd number of pebbles when cleaning oneself after answering the call of nature. This ensures that all areas are cleaned properly, as it is difficult to do so with an even number of pebbles due to symmetry issues. The second way mentioned in this hadith is by snuffing water into one's nose and then cleaning it while performing ablution, or wudu'. This helps ensure that any dirt or impurities are removed from the nose before prayer, thus making sure that a person's prayer remains pure and undefiled by any external contaminants.
