Sahih Muslim 214 (Book 1, Hadith 424) #7689
Seeking Forgiveness from Allah

SUMMARY: The hadith explains that establishing ties of relationship and feeding the poor is not enough to be forgiven on the Day of Resurrection, one must also ask Allah for forgiveness.

'A'isha reported: I said: Messenger of Allah, the son of Jud'an established ties of relationship, fed the poor. Would that be of any avail to him? He said: It would be of no avail to him as he did not ever say: O my Lord, pardon my sins on the Day of Resurrection.

Ask Allah for forgiveness, help those who are less fortunate than you.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that although it is important to establish ties with others and feed the poor, it will not be enough to be forgiven on the Day of Resurrection. One must also ask Allah for forgiveness in order to receive His mercy. This teaches us that we should always remember to seek forgiveness from Allah and repent for our sins as this is essential in order to receive His mercy. We should also strive to help those who are less fortunate than us by providing them with food or other necessities they may need.
