Sahih Muslim 178b (Book 1, Hadith 349) #7614
Seeing Light: A Hadith on the Prophet's Experience

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's experience of seeing Light when asked if he had seen his Lord.

Abdullah b. Shaqiq reported: I said to Abu Dharr: Had I seen the Messenger of Allah, I would have asked him. He (Abu Dharr) said: What is that thing that you wanted to inquire of him? He said: I wanted to ask him whether he had seen his Lord. Abu Dharr said: I, in fact, inquired of him, and he replied: I saw Light.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be open-minded towards different ways of experiencing God’s presence ; Seek knowledge from those who are more knowledgeable ; Respect religious figures such as prophets ; Have faithfulness towards one's religion/beliefs ; Connect spiritually with God through non-physical means such as light or feeling His presence within oneself .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a conversation between Abdullah b. Shaqiq and Abu Dharr, where Abdullah asked if he could have inquired of the Prophet Muhammad whether he had seen his Lord, to which Abu Dharr replied that he himself had inquired of him, and the Prophet replied that he saw Light. This suggests that although we cannot see God directly with our physical eyes, we can still experience His presence through spiritual means such as seeing light or feeling His presence within us. It teaches us to be open-minded towards different ways of experiencing God’s presence, rather than limiting ourselves to what we can see with our physical eyes alone. It also encourages us to seek knowledge from those who are more knowledgeable than us - in this case, it was Abu Dharr who was able to answer Abdullah’s question because he himself had already asked it from the Prophet Muhammad before.
