Obligatory Prayers and Forbidden Things

SUMMARY: Doing obligatory prayers and avoiding forbidden things will lead to Paradise.

It is narrated on the authority of Jabir that Nu'man b. Qaufal came to the Prophet and said: Would I enter Paradise if I say the obligatory prayers and deny myself that which is forbidden and treat that as lawful what has been made permissible (by the Shari'ah)? The Prophet replied in the affirmative.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of prayer and following the rules of Islam. It is narrated on the authority of Jabir that Nu'man b. Qaufal came to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and asked if he would enter Paradise if he said his obligatory prayers and denied himself that which is forbidden by Islamic law while treating what has been made permissible as lawful. The Prophet ﷺ replied in the affirmative. This hadith teaches us that we should strive to do our obligatory prayers regularly as well as avoid doing anything that has been deemed forbidden by Islamic law in order to be rewarded with entry into Paradise. We should also treat what has been made permissible as lawful so we can reap its benefits without going against Islamic teachings.
