Invoking Allah for Forgiveness

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) teaching Abu Bakr As-Siddiq an invocation to Allah for forgiveness.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Amr: Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said to the Prophet "O Allah's Messenger ! Teach me an invocation with which I may invoke Allah in my prayers". The Prophet said, "Say: O Allah! I have wronged my soul very much (oppressed myself), and none forgives the sins but You; so please bestow Your Forgiveness upon me. No doubt, You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek forgiveness from Allah for our wrongdoings and mistakes; remember that no one can forgive us except Him; do not oppress ourselves by committing sins or wrongdoings .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the importance of seeking forgiveness from Allah. The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught Abu Bakr As-Siddiq an invocation to use in his prayers, which was “O Allah! I have wronged my soul very much (oppressed myself), and none forgives the sins but You; so please bestow Your Forgiveness upon me. No doubt, You are the Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful”. This shows that we should always seek forgiveness from Allah for our wrongdoings and mistakes as He is most merciful and forgiving. We should also remember that no one can forgive us except Him, so it is important to ask Him for His mercy and grace in order to be forgiven by Him. Additionally, this hadith teaches us that we should not oppress ourselves by committing sins or wrongdoings as this will only lead us further away from His mercy and grace.
