Sahih al-Bukhari 7347 (Book 96, Hadith 75) #7050
Quarrelsomeness of Man

SUMMARY: Man is more quarrelsome than anything else and Allah will make us get up when He wants us to.

Narrated 'Ali bin Abi Talib: That Allah's Messenger came to him and Fatima the daughter of Allah's Messenger at their house at night and said, "Won't you pray?" 'Ali replied, "O Allah's Messenger ! Our souls are in the Hands of Allah and when he wants us to get up, He makes us get up". When 'Ali said that to him, Allah's Messenger left without saying anything to him. While the Prophet was leaving, 'Ali heard him striking his thigh (with his hand) and saying, "But man is quarrelsome more than anything else". (18:54)

QUICK LESSONS:
Be patient with others even if you disagree with them; strive for faith in Allah; respect other people's opinions; remember your soul is in His hands; don't be too quick to argue or fight with others.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how man is more quarrelsome than anything else. It was narrated by 'Ali bin Abi Talib, who said that the Prophet Muhammad came to him and his daughter Fatima at their house one night and asked them if they wanted to pray. Ali replied that their souls were in the hands of Allah, so when He wanted them to get up, He would make them get up. The Prophet left without saying anything else but Ali heard him striking his thigh with his hand and saying “But man is quarrelsome more than anything else” (18:54). This hadith teaches us that we should not be too quick to argue or fight with others because it can lead us away from our faith in Allah. We should remember that our souls are in His hands and He will make us do what He wants when the time comes. We should also strive to be patient with others even if we disagree with them because this will help keep our faith strong.
