Sahih al-Bukhari 7162 (Book 93, Hadith 26) #6881
Sealing Letters with a Silver Ring

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad took a silver ring with his name engraved on it to seal letters he wrote to the Byzantines.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: When the Prophet intended to write to the Byzantines, the people said, "They do not read a letter unless it is sealed (stamped)". Therefore the Prophet took a silver ring----as if I am looking at its glitter now----and its engraving was: 'Muhammad, Apostle of Allah'.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about how the Prophet Muhammad used a silver ring with his name engraved on it to seal letters he wrote to the Byzantines. In those days, people would not read an unsealed letter and so this was an important step in ensuring that his message was received and read. This hadith also teaches us about the importance of making sure our messages are properly sealed and secure when we send them out into the world. It also shows us that even though times have changed since then, we can still learn from what happened in history and apply it today.
