Sahih al-Bukhari 7022 (Book 91, Hadith 39) #6750
The Generosity of the Companions

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) seeing himself in a dream giving water to people from a well, and how Abu Bakr and Umar took over to help him.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger said, "While I was sleeping, I saw myself standing over a tank (well) giving water to the people to drink. Then Abu Bakr came to me and took the bucket from me in order to relieve me and he pulled out one or two full buckets, and there was weakness in his pulling --may Allah forgive him. Then Ibn Al-Khattab took it from him and went on drawing water till the people left (after being satisfied) while the tank was over flowing with water".

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, narrated by Abu Huraira, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) saw himself in a dream standing over a tank or well giving water to people. He was then relieved by his companions Abu Bakr and Umar who took over from him. This hadith speaks of the generosity of these two companions as they worked together to help out their beloved Prophet. It also shows us that even though they were both great leaders, they still respected each other enough to work together for something greater than themselves. Furthermore, it teaches us that we should always be generous with our time and resources when helping others in need. We should also strive to work together with others for common goals instead of competing against each other for personal gain or recognition.
