Praying Thirteen Rak'at

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) prayed thirteen rak'at and then slept, and when the Mu'adh-dhin came to him he went out and prayed the morning prayer without repeating the ablution.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: One night I slept at the house of (my aunt) Maimuna and the Prophet was there on that night. He performed ablution and stood up for the prayer. I joined him and stood on his left side but he drew me to his right and prayed thirteen rak'at and then slept till I heard his breath sounds. And whenever he slept, he used to breathe with audible sounds. The Mu'adh-dhin came to the Prophet and he went out and prayed the morning prayer) without repeating the ablution.
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرٌو، عَنْ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ مَخْرَمَةَ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ نِمْتُ عِنْدَ مَيْمُونَةَ وَالنَّبِيُّ عِنْدَهَا تِلْكَ اللَّيْلَةَ، فَتَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ قَامَ يُصَلِّي، فَقُمْتُ عَلَى يَسَارِهِ، فَأَخَذَنِي فَجَعَلَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ، فَصَلَّى ثَلاَثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً، ثُمَّ نَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ ـ وَكَانَ إِذَا نَامَ نَفَخَ ـ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الْمُؤَذِّنُ، فَخَرَجَ فَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ‏.‏ قَالَ عَمْرٌو فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ بُكَيْرًا فَقَالَ حَدَّثَنِي كُرَيْبٌ بِذَلِكَ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed his prayers. He performed ablution, which is a ritual washing of certain parts of one's body before prayer. Then he stood up for prayer and was joined by Ibn 'Abbas who stood on his left side but was drawn to his right side. The Prophet ﷺ then prayed thirteen rak’ats before sleeping until he heard his breath sounds. When the Mu’adh-dhin came to him, he went out and prayed the morning prayer without repeating ablution again. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful of our prayers as it is an important part of our faith in Islam. We should also take care to perform ablutions properly before praying so that we can be sure that our prayers are accepted by Allah SWT. Furthermore, this hadith also shows us how important it is for us to be punctual in our prayers as well as being mindful of their importance in our lives as Muslims.
