Sahih al-Bukhari 6995 (Book 91, Hadith 14) #6725
The Nature of Dreams

SUMMARY: Dreams can be from Allah or from Satan, and if one has a bad dream, they should seek refuge with Allah to protect themselves.

Narrated Abu Qatada: The Prophet said, "A good dream is from Allah, and a bad dream is from Satan. So whoever has seen (in a dream) something he dislikes, then he should spit without saliva, thrice on his left and seek refuge with Allah from Satan, for it will not harm him, and Satan cannot appear in my shape".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek refuge with Allah when having a bad dream .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the nature of dreams. It tells us that dreams can come from either Allah or Satan. If someone has a bad dream, they should spit without saliva three times on their left side and seek refuge with Allah from Satan in order to protect themselves. This is because even though bad dreams may seem scary, they cannot actually harm us as long as we take the necessary precautions and ask for protection from God. We must remember that only God has the power to protect us against any evil forces that may try to harm us.
