The Gift of Giving

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ warned against taking back a gift, comparing it to a dog swallowing its own vomit.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: The Prophet said, "The one who takes back his gift is like a dog swallowing its own vomit, and we (believers) should not act according to this bad example".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of giving gifts and not taking them back. The Prophet Muhammad compared someone who takes back their gift to a dog that swallows its own vomit, which is an unpleasant image. This hadith teaches us that we should be generous with our gifts and not take them back once they have been given away. It also teaches us to be humble and not expect anything in return for our generosity. We should give out of kindness and love, without expecting anything in return from the recipient.
