Penalty of Stoning for Illegal Sexual Intercourse

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the penalty of stoning someone to death for committing illegal sexual intercourse.

Narrated Ash-Shaibani: I asked 'Abdullah bin Abi 'Aufa about the Rajam (stoning somebody to death for committing illegal sexual intercourse). He replied, "The Prophet carried out the penalty of Rajam," I asked, "Was that before or after the revelation of Surat-an-Nur?" He replied, "I do not know".

QUICK LESSONS:
Uphold justice among society members and protect them from immoral acts .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the penalty of stoning someone to death for committing illegal sexual intercourse, which is known as Rajam in Arabic. It was narrated by Ash-Shaibani and Abdullah bin Abi 'Aufa, who were companions of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The hadith mentions that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ carried out this penalty before or after the revelation of Surat an Nur, however it does not specify when exactly this happened. This punishment was prescribed in Islam as a way to protect society from immoral acts and uphold justice among its members. It also serves as a deterrent against such acts so that people are discouraged from engaging in them in the first place.
