Sahih al-Bukhari 6824 (Book 86, Hadith 52) #6565
Punishment for Adultery

SUMMARY: The hadith is about a man who confessed to having sexual intercourse with a woman and was ordered to be stoned as punishment.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: When Ma'iz bin Malik came to the Prophet (in order to confess), the Prophet said to him, "Probably you have only kissed (the lady), or winked, or looked at her?" He said, "No, O Allah's Messenger !" The Prophet said, using no euphemism, "Did you have sexual intercourse with her?" The narrator added: At that, (ie after his confession) the Prophet ordered that he be stoned (to death).

QUICK LESSONS:
Tell the truth no matter what situation you are in .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the consequences of adultery. It tells us that when someone commits adultery and confesses it, they will be punished by being stoned. This punishment was given by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He asked the person who committed the act if he had done it and when he admitted it, he was ordered to be stoned. This shows us that Islam takes adultery very seriously and does not condone such behavior. It also teaches us that we should always tell the truth no matter what because lying can lead to more serious consequences than telling the truth.
