Sahih al-Bukhari 6638 (Book 83, Hadith 17) #6384
The Losers of Wealth

SUMMARY: Wealthy people are the losers unless they spend their wealth in Allah's cause.

Narrated Abu Dhar: I reached him (the Prophet ) while in the shade of the Ka'ba; he was saying, "They are the losers, by the Lord of the Ka'ba! They are the losers, by the Lord of the Ka'ba!" I said (to myself ), "What is wrong with me? Is anything improper detected in me? What is wrong with me? Then I sat beside him and he kept on saying his statement. I could not remain quiet, and Allah knows in what sorrowful state I was at that time. So I said, ' Who are they (the losers)? Let My father and mother be sacrificed for you, O Allah's Messenger !" He said, "They are the wealthy people, except the one who does like this and like this and like this (ie, spends of his wealth in Allah's Cause).

QUICK LESSONS:
Spend your wealth in Allah's cause. Be generous with your resources and help those who need it instead of hoarding them for yourself.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Abu Dhar, speaks about the wealthy people and how they can be considered as losers if they do not spend their wealth in Allah’s cause. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was saying “They are the losers, by the Lord of Ka'ba! They are the losers, by the Lord of Ka'ba!” when Abu Dhar reached him while he was in shade of Ka'ba. When Abu Dhar asked who these people were, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that these were wealthy people who did not spend their wealth in Allah’s cause. This hadith teaches us that it is important to use our resources for good causes and help those who need it instead of hoarding them for ourselves. It also teaches us to be generous with our wealth and use it to benefit others as well as ourselves.
