Sahih al-Bukhari 647 (Book 10, Hadith 44) #624
The Rewards of Praying in Congregation

SUMMARY: Praying in congregation is more rewarding than praying alone, and each step taken towards the mosque increases one's reward and decreases their sins.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger said, "The reward of the prayer offered by a person in congregation is twenty five times greater than that of the prayer offered in one's house or in the market (alone). And this is because if he performs ablution and does it perfectly and then proceeds to the mosque with the sole intention of praying, then for every step he takes towards the mosque, he is upgraded one degree in reward and his one sin is taken off (crossed out) from his accounts (of deeds). When he offers his prayer, the angels keep on asking Allah's Blessings and Allah's forgiveness for him as long as he is (staying) at his Musalla. They say, 'O Allah! Bestow Your blessings upon him, be Merciful and kind to him'. And one is regarded in prayer as long as one is waiting for the prayer".

QUICK LESSONS:
Perform ablution perfectly before going to mosque for prayers; Have sole intention of praying when going to mosque; Stay at musalla until end of prayer; Ask Allah's blessings and forgiveness while staying at musalla .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the rewards of praying in congregation. It tells us that when we pray with others at a mosque or masjid, our reward is twenty five times greater than if we were to pray alone. Additionally, for every step taken towards the mosque for prayer our reward increases and any sins are crossed out from our accounts. Furthermore, while we are at the musalla or prayer area angels keep on asking Allah's blessings and forgiveness for us as long as we stay there. This hadith also teaches us that even if someone has already prayed they should stay until the end of prayer because they will still be regarded as being in prayer during this time.
