The Month of Hardship

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) family going through a month of hardship where they only ate dates and water, unless they were given a present of meat.

Narrated 'Aisha: A complete month would pass by during which we would not make a fire (for cooking), and our food used to be only dates and water unless we were given a present of some meat.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ـ رضى الله عنها ـ قَالَتْ كَانَ يَأْتِي عَلَيْنَا الشَّهْرُ مَا نُوقِدُ فِيهِ نَارًا، إِنَّمَا هُوَ التَّمْرُ وَالْمَاءُ، إِلاَّ أَنْ نُؤْتَى بِاللُّحَيْمِ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by 'Aisha speaks to the hardships that the Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) family faced during one month. During this time, they did not have access to fire for cooking and their food was limited to dates and water. However, if someone gave them a present of meat, then they would be able to enjoy it as well. This hadith teaches us that even in times of difficulty and hardship, we should remain patient and thankful for whatever blessings we receive from Allah SWT. It also reminds us that no matter how difficult our situation may be, Allah SWT will always provide us with sustenance in some way or another.
