Sahih al-Bukhari 6439 (Book 81, Hadith 28) #6188
Greed is Futile, Repentance is Rewarded

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the futility of greed and how Allah forgives those who repent to Him.

Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah's Messenger said, "If Adam's son had a valley full of gold, he would like to have two valleys, for nothing fills his mouth except dust. And Allah forgives him who repents to Him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Seek forgiveness from Allah through repentance so that you may be rewarded in the hereafter.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the futility of greed and how it will never be satisfied. It also speaks of the mercy of Allah, as He forgives those who repent to Him. The hadith tells us that even if a person has a valley full of gold, they would still want more; nothing can fill their mouth except dust. This dust symbolizes death and mortality, which no amount of wealth can prevent or delay. Therefore, it is important for us to remember that our lives are finite and we should not waste them in pursuit of material gain or worldly desires. Instead, we should focus on seeking forgiveness from Allah through repentance so that we may be rewarded in the hereafter.
