Sahih al-Bukhari 639 (Book 10, Hadith 36) #616
Taking a Bath of Janaba

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) left the mosque after the Iqama was pronounced and asked his followers to remain in their places. He returned with water dripping from his head, having taken a bath of Janaba.

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Messenger went out (of the mosque) when the Iqama had been pronounced and the rows straightened. The Prophet stood at his Musalla (praying place) and we waited for the Prophet to begin the prayer with Takbir. He left and asked us to remain in our places. We kept on standing till the Prophet returned and the water was trickling from his head for he had taken a bath (of Janaba).

QUICK LESSONS:
Respectfulness towards God's house; Mindfulness during worshiping God together with others; Taking baths for purification purposes before praying; Following instructions given by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of taking a bath of janaba before performing prayer. It is narrated by Abu Huraira that when Allah's Messenger went out to perform prayer after the iqama was pronounced and rows were straightened, he asked them to stay in their places while he left for a while. When he returned, there was water dripping from his head as he had taken a bath of janaba before performing prayer. This shows us how important it is to take this kind of bath before praying as it is an act that pleases Allah and brings one closer to Him. It also teaches us that we should always be mindful and respectful when we are in the mosque or any other place where people are worshipping God together.
