Circumcision at an Unusual Age

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Ibn Abbas being asked how old he was when the Prophet died and his response that he had already been circumcised, which was unusual for boys at that time.

Narrated Said bin Jubair: Ibn 'Abbas was asked, "How old were you when the Prophet died?" He replied".At that time I had been circumcised". At that time, people did not circumcise the boys till they attained the age of puberty. Sa'id bin Jubair said, "Ibn 'Abbas said, 'When the Prophet died, I had already been circumcised".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow Islamic teachings even if it goes against societal norms or expectations .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a conversation between Said bin Jubair and Ibn 'Abbas. Said bin Jubair asked Ibn 'Abbas how old he was when the Prophet died, to which Ibn 'Abbas replied that he had already been circumcised. This was unusual for boys at that time as they were not usually circumcised until they reached puberty. This suggests that the Prophet wanted to make sure his followers were following Islamic practices from a young age, even if it wasn't common practice in society yet. It also shows us the importance of following Islamic teachings even if it goes against societal norms or expectations.
