Warning Against False Statements

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ warned against giving false statements and emphasized the importance of this warning.

Narrated Bishr: as above (No. 290) adding: The Prophet was reclining (leaning) and then he sat up saying, "And I warn you against giving a false statement". And he kept on saying that warning so much so that we said, "Would that he had stopped".
حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرٌ، مِثْلَهُ، وَكَانَ مُتَّكِئًا فَجَلَسَ فَقَالَ ‏ "‏ أَلاَ وَقَوْلُ الزُّورِ ‏"‏‏.‏ فَمَا زَالَ يُكَرِّرُهَا حَتَّى قُلْنَا لَيْتَهُ سَكَتَ‏.‏
