Sahih al-Bukhari 5557 (Book 73, Hadith 13) #5332
Slaughtering a Second Sacrifice

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) instructed Abu Burda to slaughter a second sacrifice when he had already slaughtered one before the prayer.

Narrated Al-Bara': Abu Burda slaughtered (the sacrifice) before the ('Id) prayer whereupon the Prophet said to him, "Slaughter another sacrifice instead of that". Abu Burda said, "I have nothing except a Jadha'a". (Shu'ba said: Perhaps Abu Burda also said that Jadha'a was better than an old sheep in his opinion) The Prophet said, "(Never mind), slaughter it to make up for the other one, but it will not be sufficient for anyone else after you".

QUICK LESSONS:
Offer sacrifices during religious festivals with generosity and willingness .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of offering sacrifices during religious festivals. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ instructed Abu Burda to offer a second sacrifice after he had already offered one before the prayer. Even though Abu Burda only had a Jadha’ah left which was not considered as good as an old sheep for sacrificing, the Prophet ﷺ still told him to offer it in order to make up for his first sacrifice. This teaches us that we should always strive to do our best in fulfilling our religious obligations even if we don’t have much resources or means available at hand. We should also be generous and willing to give whatever we can in order to please Allah SWT and gain His blessings.
