Prohibiting Donkey Meat

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) made the meat of donkeys unlawful on the day of the battle of Khaibar.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: The Prophet made the meat of donkeys unlawful on the day of the battle of Khaibar.
حَدَّثَنَا صَدَقَةُ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، وَنَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ نَهَى النَّبِيُّ عَنْ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ الأَهْلِيَّةِ يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ‏.‏

EXPLANATIONS:
On the day of the Battle of Khaibar, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prohibited eating donkey meat. This prohibition was to ensure that Muslims would not consume something that is considered bad or forbidden in Islam. Eating donkey meat is considered a sin and it is not permissible for Muslims to eat it. The Prophet ﷺ wanted to make sure that his followers were following Islamic teachings and avoiding any kind of sin or wrongdoing. He also wanted to ensure that they were living a life according to Islamic principles and values, which includes avoiding anything that has been deemed as Ḥaram or forbidden by Allah SWT.

The Prophet ﷺ taught us many lessons through this hadith, such as being mindful about what we consume and making sure we are following Islamic teachings in all aspects of our lives, including our diet. We should strive to be good Muslims by avoiding anything that has been deemed as Ḥaram or forbidden by Allah SWT in order for us to gain His pleasure and blessings in this life and hereafter.
