Sahih al-Bukhari 5426 (Book 70, Hadith 54) #5200
Avoiding Luxurious Items

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught his companions to avoid using luxurious items such as silk, gold and silver vessels, and plates of precious metals as these are for the unbelievers in this world and for believers in the Hereafter.

Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abi Laila: We were sitting in the company of Hudhaifa who asked for water and a Magian brought him water. But when he placed the cup in his hand, he threw it at him and said, "Had I not forbidden him to do so more than once or twice?" He wanted to say, "I would not have done so," adding, "but I heard the Prophet saying, "Do not wear silk or Dibaj, and do not drink in silver or golden vessels, and do not eat in plates of such metals, for such things are for the unbelievers in this worldly life and for us in the Hereafter".

QUICK LESSONS:
Avoid using luxurious items such as silk, gold and silver vessels, and plates of precious metals

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about avoiding luxurious items such as silk, gold and silver vessels, and plates of precious metals. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught his companions that these items are not meant for believers but rather they are meant for unbelievers in this world. He also taught that these things will be given to believers in the hereafter instead. This hadith teaches us to be content with what we have now so that we can receive more blessings from Allah SWT in the hereafter. We should not be too attached to worldly possessions or become too focused on materialistic things because they will not benefit us when we die. Instead, we should focus on doing good deeds so that our rewards will follow us into the afterlife.
