Sahih al-Bukhari 5283 (Book 68, Hadith 32) #5061
Love in Unconditional Circumstances

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was astonished at the love of a slave for his wife and her hatred for him, and he interceded on behalf of the slave.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: Barira's husband was a slave called Mughith, as if I am seeing him now, going behind Barirah and weeping with his tears flowing down his beard. The Prophet said to 'Abbas, "O 'Abbas ! are you not astonished at the love of Mughith for Barirah and the hatred of Barirah for Mughith?" The Prophet then said to Barirah, "Why don't you return to him?" She said, "O Allah's Messenger ! Do you order me to do so?" He said, "No, I only intercede for him". She said, "I am not in need of him".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show kindness even when someone does not show kindness in return ; Remain patient and hopeful despite facing difficult situations ; Intercede on behalf others who are facing difficulties .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's astonishment at the love between Mughith, a slave, and Barirah, his wife. Despite their different social statuses, Mughith loved Barirah deeply and she showed no love in return. The Prophet Muhammad interceded on behalf of Mughith but Barirah refused to accept it. This hadith teaches us that true love is unconditional regardless of any differences or circumstances that may exist between two people. It also shows us how important it is to be kind even when someone does not show kindness in return as this was what the Prophet Muhammad did when he interceded on behalf of Mughith despite being rejected by Barirah. Furthermore, this hadith also teaches us that we should never give up hope even if we are faced with difficult situations as there is always a chance for things to turn out better than expected if we remain patient and hopeful.
