Sahih al-Bukhari 5242 (Book 67, Hadith 175) #5021
The Power of Saying "If Allah Wills"

SUMMARY: This hadith is about Prophet Solomon's desire to have a hundred sons who would fight in Allah's cause, and how he forgot to say "If Allah wills" which could have made his wish come true.

Narrated Abu Huraira: (The Prophet) Solomon son of (the Prophet) David said, "Tonight I will go round (ie have sexual relations with) one hundred women (my wives) everyone of whom will deliver a male child who will fight in Allah's Cause". On that an Angel said to him, "Say: 'If Allah will'. " But Solomon did not say it and forgot to say it. Then he had sexual relations with them but none of them delivered any child except one who delivered a half person. The Prophet said, "If Solomon had said: 'If Allah will,' Allah would have fulfilled his (above) desire and that saying would have made him more hopeful".

QUICK LESSONS:
Have faith in God and trust His will .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the power of saying “If Allah wills” when making a wish or desire. It tells the story of Prophet Solomon, son of David, who wanted to have one hundred sons who would fight in the cause of Allah. He was so sure that this would happen that he did not say “if Allah wills” before making his wish. However, only one son was born from all his wives and even then it was only half a person. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that if Solomon had said “if Allah wills” then his wish would have been fulfilled as it shows faith in God and His power over all things. This teaches us that we should always remember to put our trust in God when making any wishes or desires as He alone has the power to make them come true.
