Sahih al-Bukhari 4934 (Book 65, Hadith 455) #4715
Escaping Evil

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was in a cave with his companions when Surat wal-Mursalat was revealed to him. A snake suddenly sprang at them, but the Prophet (ﷺ) said that it had escaped their evil and they had escaped its evil.

Narrated 'Abdullah: While we were with the Prophet in a cave, Surat wal-Mursalat was revealed to him and he recited it, and I heard it directly from his mouth as soon as he recited its revelation. Suddenly a snake sprang at us, and the Prophet said, "Kill it!" We ran to kill it but it escaped quickly. The Prophet said".It has escaped your evil, and you too have escaped its evil".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be Grateful for escaping harm or danger; Be Thankful for blessings given by Allah; Show awareness of His protection over you even when you are unaware of it .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's experience in a cave with his companions. While they were there, Surat wal-Mursalat was revealed to him and he recited it. Suddenly, a snake sprang at them and the Prophet told them to kill it, but it escaped quickly. He then said that it had escaped their evil and they too had escaped its evil. This teaches us that we should be grateful for being able to escape from any harm or danger that may come our way as Allah has protected us from it. We should also be thankful for all of the blessings we have been given by Allah as He is always looking out for us even when we are unaware of His protection over us.
