Sahih al-Bukhari 4901 (Book 65, Hadith 421) #4682
The Revelation of Surat Al-Munafiqin

SUMMARY: This hadith is about how Allah revealed a verse in the Quran to confirm the statement of Zaid bin Arqam, who was distressed after his uncle informed Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) of what Abdullah bin Ubai and his companions said.

Narrated Zaid bin Arqam: I was with my uncle and I heard 'Abdullah bin Ubai bin Salul, saying, "Don't spend on those who are with Allah's Messenger that they may disperse and go away from him". He also said, "If we return to Medina, surely, the more honorable will expel the meaner". So I informed my uncle of that and then my uncle informed Allah's Messenger thereof. Allah's Messenger sent for 'Abdullah bin Ubai and his companions. They swore that they did not say anything of that sort Allah's Messenger deemed their statement true and rejected mine. Thereof I became as distressed as I have never been before, and stayed at home. Then Allah revealed (Surat Al-Munafiqin): 'When the hypocrites come to you.(63:1) They are the ones who say: Spend nothing on those who are with Allah's Messenger .(63:7) Verily the more honorable will expel therefrom the meaner'. (63:7-8) Allah's Messenger sent for me and recited that Sura for me and said, "Allah has confirmed your statement".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest even if no one believes you at first

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how Allah revealed a verse in the Quran to confirm the statement of Zaid bin Arqaam. It all started when Zaid was with his uncle and heard Abdullah ibn Ubayy and his companions saying not to spend on those who are with Prophet Muhammad ﷺ so that they may disperse away from him. His uncle then informed Prophet Muhammad ﷺ about this which made him call for Abdullah ibn Ubayy and his companions. They swore that they did not say anything like that but Prophet Muhammad ﷺ believed them over Zaid's statement which made him very distressed. Then Allah revealed a verse in the Quran called Surah al Munafiqqoon confirming what he said which made him feel better as it showed that Allah believed him over them. This hadith teaches us an important lesson; we should always be truthful even if no one believes us because ultimately it is only Allah who knows what is true or false and He will always reward those who are honest even if no one else does at first.
