Sahih al-Bukhari 4801 (Book 65, Hadith 323) #4584
Warning of a Terrible Punishment

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) warned the people of Quraish about a terrible punishment and Abu Lahab responded with disbelief.

Narrated Ibn 'Abbas: One day the Prophet ascended Safa mountain and said, "Oh Sabah! " All the Quraish gathered round him and said, "What is the matter?" He said, Look, if I told you that an enemy is going to attack you in the morning or in the evening, would you not believe me?" They said, "Yes, we will believe you". He said, "I am a warner to you in face of a terrible punishment". On that Abu Lahab said, "May you perish ! Is it for this thing that you have gathered us?" So Allah revealed: 'Perish the hands of Abu Lahab!'. (111:1)

QUICK LESSONS:
Take warnings seriously

EXPLANATIONS:
In this hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is warning the people of Quraish about an impending punishment from Allah. He asked them if they would believe him if he told them that an enemy was going to attack them in the morning or evening, and they said yes. However, when he warned them about a terrible punishment from Allah, Abu Lahab responded with disbelief and mockery. As a result, Allah revealed Surah 111 which cursed Abu Lahab for his disbelief and mockery. This hadith teaches us that we should always take warnings seriously and not mock or disbelieve those who are trying to warn us of potential danger or harm. We should also be careful not to mock those who are trying to do good deeds as it can lead to severe consequences from Allah.
